WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE'RE DOING
WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE’RE DOING
CalPERS has long been a leader in sustainability and is committed to preserving the State’s natural resources. The Total Energy Usage represented on this website reflects only part of the story. This measure does not account for the 62% increase in total square footage that CalPERS has experienced since 2003, through the acquisition of additional properties to the existing headquarters. The Total Energy Use only measures an increase in energy. Rather than comparing Total Energy Usage to determine savings, a more appropriate unit of comparison, for this situation, is Energy Use Intensity (EUI) which provides energy consumption per square foot. This allows for a better means to measure energy consumption despite our increase in square footage. In 2015, the EUI resulted in a 33% savings as compared to 2003.
CalPERS will continue to make significant efforts to reduce the impact of our organization on the environment. For more information on our Green Building Accomplishments visit our website . Below are a few of the achievements and updates to the conservation program:
- Lincoln Plaza East/West building was rated LEED Certified Platinum ® by USGBC in May 2014, Lincoln Plaza North building received LEED Certified Gold® in August 2014 followed by Lincoln Plaza South building achieving LEED Certified Gold® in October 2015.
- In 2015, CalPERS reduced water consumption by 32% over the 2010 baseline, or 8,444,650 gallons, exceeding the Executive Order B-18-12 target reduction by 12%.
- As an active participant in SMUD Greenergy, CalPERS receives a mix of Green-e certified wind and solar generation from the State of California to offset 100% of energy consumption for the headquarters facilities.
